Adventures in Taranaki and Tongariro

On your next adventure trip to New Zealand consider the Taranaki and Tongariro region on the West Coast of the North Island of New Zealand. A few of the adventure possibilities are:-

Tongariro Forest Crossing – mountain biking

You will find Tongariro Forest 20km northwest of Mount Ruapehu. This is one of the best mountain bike adventures in the North Island. The route is suitable for intermediate riders and takes 3 to 6 hours, covering 40km. From the main highway beside Mount Ruapehu, you ride through Tongariro Forest on old disused logging roads to Owhango, 40km away. It involves brilliant biking and has an overall descent of 570 metres.

Around Mount Ngauruhoe

This is a tramp in Tongariro National Park for beginner to intermediate trampers which takes 2 to 4 days. The tramp passes through the unique and varied landscape of Tongariro National Park. Relatively young volcanoes have formed fascinating craters, cliffs, lakes, and rock formations, making this the North Island’s most popular tramping area. There are numerous interesting side trips along the way.
